The best home-made tops, in my opinion, are of MDF covered both sides with plastic laminate. For a small table a single thickness of 18mm MDF is sufficient but for this large table I am using two thicknesses of 15mm MDF glued together with PVA glue.
Plunge routers are best for projects that require working from above, whereas fixed-base models are ideal for edgework. When a project requires routing the middle of a workpiece, such as when milling mortises or hidden dados (dados that don’t run all the way from edge to the other), plunge routers are the way to go.
A handheld router is more portable and versatile, suitable for tasks that require mobility or working on irregularly shaped pieces. On the other hand, a router table excels in providing stability, control, and enhanced precision for larger projects or when working with small pieces.
A plunge router automatically surrounds and protects your expensive bits when it’s not in use. Just push your finger to disengage the lock lever and the spring-loaded mechanism retracts the housing, lifting the bit into the safety of the router base.
Sturdy base materials: Wood, especially solid wood rather than particleboard, is best for the cat tree base, platforms and posts. Metal frames are also durable options. Scratching post fabrics: The scratching surfaces should be covered in rough fabrics cats can grip like sisal rope, natural fiber carpet, or wood.
Plywood. Plywood, constructed by adhering many thin sheets of wood together, is a common choice for cat tree bases and platforms.
