The Bohemian Style stands for freedom, art, peace, love and joy. So the boho style is much more than just a fashion trend. It describes a lifestyle that is unconventional, creative, musical and critical of political and social society.
Boho is a term used to describe the room decor styles and fashion themes of the yesteryear era. In other words, the Boho styles refer to the early 18th and 19th century eras. Meanwhile, concerning the Bohemian styles, the era started after the 1970s.
Boho is an abbreviation for “Bohemian Homeless”, i.e. nomads from the Bohemian region. These nomads were of gypsy ethnicity. This is why the Boho style, or Boho-Chic, is also called “gypsy style”. Bohemian nomads had a style and values very different from the bourgeois and patriarchal Parisian society of the time.
“BoHo” is a shortened form of bohemian, self descriptive of the style. Virginia Nicholson (granddaughter of Vanessa Bell, one of the pivotal figures of the unconventional, but influential “Bloomsbury Group” in the first half of the 20th century) has described it as a “curious slippery adjective”.
Choose a color palette: Boho colors often include earthy tones, such as terracotta, olive green, and mustard yellow. Equally, bright jewel tones like fuchsia, emerald green, and sapphire blue work well. Just choose a color palette that reflects your style and then choose pieces of decor that compliment those colors.
As you can see, black and navy are in the same family and can be worn together, so feel free to embrace this pairing to your outfit preferences. Remember to stick to three colors maximum in your outfit: black, navy and one more neutral (if desired).
Navy blue is a versatile shade that works well with a range of colors. Pair it with white for a coastal living room, or with gold for an elegant feel in a formal dining room. Mix navy with red or green for a traditional space, or with other shades of blue for a tonal effect.
Juxtapose navy blue furniture, decor, or cabinetry with a backdrop of crisp white walls for an energizing effect. Alternatively, you can balance dark, inky blue walls with white furniture, fabrics, and breezy sheer curtain panels.
While blue and black are powerful colors on their own, they are also two colors that work well together. Blue and black are both deep, rich powerful colors and work especially well in spaces in which you may wish to have a bit more formality, such as living rooms and dining rooms.
To complement the richness of navy, try using cool-toned woods like white oak or maple in your lighting and furniture. Wood warms up a room without much effort. Here, light wood on the bar stools and floating shelves brightens the room while offering the cozy texture of natural materials.
